Tanning may seem like a light matter but there is some preparation to be done to make sure you get a good quality tan as well as a safe tan.

Some initial preparation for tanning is to look in your medicine cabinet. Some prescriptions do not mesh well with a tanning bed. Certain prescriptions can cause photosensitivity which can lead to a rash. Read the labels of your medication and follow up with your physician to know for sure what the effects may be.

Another thing to look into is your family history. If you have a history of skin cancer and/or extremely fair skinned, a tanning salon may not be the best option for you. However, if you still prefer a tan instead of your pasty white color, a sunless tanning lotion or airbrush tan will be the best and safest option.
